Frequently Asked Questions

Colorful Wooden Duck Decoy next to paint and paint brushes

What do you use to create your watercolor paintings?

I use Japanese Kuretake watercolors most of the time, and occasionally I use the Arteza watercolor pens for fine detail work. I typically use Strathmore watercolor paper as my canvas, but the size and type varies by project.

What do you use to create your acrylic paintings?

I primarily use Posca paint pens. Any multimedia paper is fine, and these pens are also great for painting sneakers!

What do you use to create your digital drawings?

I exclusively use the app Procreate with my iPad Pro (4th Gen) and an Apple Pencil.

What hardware should I get if I'm interested in creating digital art?

It really depends. You can definitely create amazing artwork with low budget tablets, with or without a stylus. If you are unsure if you'll enjoy digital artwork or you want to save your money, then I would not recommend an iPad pro to you. I typically suggest getting a used tablet, or even taking a local digital art class to get your feet wet first!

How did you learn how to draw digitally?

I am largely self taught, but the Procreate tutorials created by Lisa Bardot are amazing, especially if you have an interest in illustration. I highly recommend them, as digital drawing has a very high learning curve.  Her channel is incredibly beginner friendly, I have linked it here. I have no affiliation with her, I simply love her work and I learned procreate via her  tutorials. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSNvnDVDjyfr8zKZMGcjvlg
